The left panel of the the diptych is covered in gold leaf, which in my paintings always represents divine presence. The line drawing on top represents Micah, as no longer in the physical realm, but as spirit, as in the presence of God. The panel on the right is obviously that of a blossoming rose, a representation of who Micah was in the flesh; soft, fragile, wildly beautiful, and not yet fully blossomed. Set together, there is something mystical and ethereal about the combination.

This piece was done in honor of my son Micah, who passed away this summer. It represents the transition of his earthly, physical form into his heavenly, spiritual form. The left panel of the the diptych is covered in gold leaf, which in my paintings always represents divine presence.
